Green green desert

LA is a pretty arid place and yet people seem able to maintain perfectly coiffured lawns. When I do eventually get round to taking a walk, I'm always taken aback by how luscious people's gardens are. Then, on closer inspection, I noticed the secreted sprinklers, which, in my opinion come on way too frequently for a city that receives about 3 days of rain a year. I guess, it's easy to make moral judgments, specially after just watching ChinaTown, but it things like this bother me (obviously only enough to right a few lines about it on a blog an take some pleasing snaps but you get the idea).
