Santa Marvellous

Santa Monica, you little beauty. Where have you been hiding. West of LA obviously but, still.

Santa Monica is like a calmed down beachside version of Hollywood with stuff actually walking distance apart. You have actual high streets here, beaches of course but also business. Its like Brighton with a dash of Hollywood.

This is the perfect combo and for me it would be ideal except getting back to Hollywood, Burbank and Studio City requires a big old freeway schlep and I don't know if you've heard but the traffic can be a bit heavy here.

No dramas. Its a nice place to visit, which I've done a few times for meetings. Perhaps next time I'll make a day of it and go watch the muscle marys and yoga posers at Bubba Gumps Shrimp factory.

  1. So - you have no idea how difficult it is to post a comment on your blog - there are probably thousands of frustrated people out there. Can't you allow anonymous posting, and just put up with the nutters and spam... :O)

So, here is the guy who recommended Santa Monica, only under another login (sigh).

Hey, you went to Santa Monica!

The place sort of irritates me, because it is so squeaky clean and WASP (and has way too many Brits) but the proximity of the ocean sort of clesnses it of all that.

There is a great bar, called Daphne's (or Maude's or something like that) - set up by a 70 yr old lady, who is now 80. and it is really popular but not in a tragically hip sort of way.

You need to go to the end of the 3rd st Promeande, where the book shop is on the right (and the cookshop over the road) and then turn right. It is a few doors up.

Nice vibe - sane people, nothing showy, good if you want to chat for the evening.
Plus, if you head up that road whateveritiscalled you get to a great Travel Accessories shop - with all the stuff you need to make a cattle-class LAX-LHR flight bearable.

Called Magellan if I remember rightly.

  3. I'm already feeling advance guilt in case you now get hordes of Chinese hackers posting spam. Or maybe Korean, given your recent comments - and of course, if it goes North Korean you may have a nuclear angle to contend with...
